Afternoon tea fundraiser in tribute to Eleanor

Story

Eleanor's love of baking has been passed on through the family. When the grandchildren were little, Eleanor's (and Great Aunt Marian's) motto was "one for each hand" (whether it be a biscuit or cake!). In tribute to Eleanor, a mother-in-law whom I both loved and admired greatly, I am hosting an afternoon tea fundraiser for the British Heart Foundation. This will take place in my dear friend Florence Dupré’s garden and many of the bakes will be inspired by Eleanor's recipes.

A beautiful afternoon

28th September 2019
A wonderful afternoon in the garden was enjoyed by all. As I placed the photo of Eleanor and Basil on the Pimm's table, the sun came out - and stayed out until the very end. Florence was a wonderful host and decorated the garden table and house beautifully, with flowers and candles. Louise generously shared the baking with me, where Eleanor's recipes provided us with inspiration (see photo gallery). Everyone was moved by Eleanor's story, her incredible resilience and her love for life. They donated generously. Friends (and even friends of friends) came together to share cakes and their own stories of love, friendships and families. A number of ladies said how lucky I was to have had such a wonderful mother-in-law and how they wished they had experienced the same. There were tears and hugs. It is incredibly touching to think that this event provided an outlet for this form of sharing of stories and I believe it has provided a springboard for our expat community to come together again in the future, to talk, laugh and cry. All because of Eleanor.
